The story: My love for running began when I beat the boys in middle school gym class. With no cross country or track program available, my mom suggested I join in summer conditioning for the high school team. I earned my first medal with my first 5k and from there it evolved. As individualized as the sport naturally is, I think my experience has been just that. With barely a high school team and little coaching, my passion for running has always come from within. I’ve been one of two members on a team and participated individually in races when my times haven’t even counted. I went on to try club cross country at Penn State when I began missing the thrill of competing. I enjoyed running with others, but the structure and coaching I was hoping for just wasn’t there. I later continued running on my own. I graduated from Penn State and decided I needed a new goal for myself- the 2010 Pittsburgh half marathon. Training for my first half marathon was truly a turning point for me. I’ve been hooked ever since. I enjoy the training, the competing, everything about it! I learn more about myself through my weeks of training than I ever have before. In 2011, I ran my second Half Marathon in Pittsburgh. I’m proud to say I coached myself to earn 2nd place in my age group.

My family and friends have said my running is inspiring. It’s the best feeling to realize I inspired someone with something I enjoy doing. Running is a major component of my lifestyle and makes me the best version of myself. It keeps me balanced, focused and best of all gives me joy that I can share with others.
Happy Trails!
A Healthy Contribution
Between job hunting, apartment moving, and long-distance relationship-ing, I can’t seem to catch a break! Running gives me order and clarity in my life and keeps me SANE! I like to keep physical fitness a priority, because I feel with your health in place, all other things will fall to order. Here are a few main contributors to my healthy lifestyle…
Nutrition: I like to keep it simple. I’m not a good cook at all, so having a few staple items makes getting the right nutrition easy. Wheat pasta, grilled chicken and veggies, fruit and Greek yogurt—oh and my go to snack, Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches!
The Write stuff: I keep a journal with me at all times. I write down my meals and workouts along with other notes about my day. During training, I write down my mileage after every run. It helps me visualize my goals and push me to the next mile during my workout. No one else will see it, but I know I won’t be happy unless I can put down the right number for the day!
The couple that sweats together: The best addition to my workout regimen is my boyfriend! We hike, bike, play basketball and even hula hoop together (separate hoops of course!) We teach each other new things and enjoy our healthy competition to stay fit. It’s great having someone to share in your ideal lifestyle, and makes living it that much more fun!
